Playing in front of another record crowd in the south gym, #2Pierce College defeated #3El Camino College (South Coast Conference Champions), for a 25-23, 25-20, 25-18 in Round 3 of the Southern California Regional Playoffs last night (Tuesday) and ending the Warriors season with a record of 26-3.
The Brahmas (29-1) outhit the Warriors 43 kills to 25 kills. As they did in 29 out of the 30 matches this season, the Brahmas won the battle behind the service line amassing 9 aces for the match with sophomore Libero, Darrin Rice, contributing to four of them. Sophomore opposite, Chelsea Lawrence, had her best performance of the season, and dominated the net with her 16 kills and 2 blocks. Sophomore outside hitter, Zaire Dartis continues to hit at a high efficiency with 12 kills on 0.417 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle blocker, Leanna Schott, had had 6 kills and 2 blocks. Sophomore setter, Rachel Lods, delivered 35 assists.
The Brahmas are headed back to the state tournament this coming weekend (Dec. 5-6) or the seventh time in the program's history. The Brahmas made it to the State Tournament three straight trips from 2004-2006 and another three in a row in the three championship seasons from 2010-2012.
This 2015 season, the Final Four State Tournament features the top 2 teams from the south (Pierce and College of the Canyons) and the top 2 teams from the north (Cabrillo and Foothill) as they go head to head in a double-elimination-type tournament. Pierce’s opponent in Saturday’s match is #2Foothill College and the match starts at 2 PM at College of the Canyons The winner of the first two matches will play at 7 PM again on Saturday (Dec. 5) with the winner advancing to the Finals on Sunday (Dec. 6) at 3:30 PM. In other words, if we win our first match against Foothill, we play at 7 PM (the winner of COC and Cabrillo).
