In the First Round . . . On Tuesday night, second-seeded Pierce College women's volleyball team kept their stellar season alive in front of a record crowd in the Brahma Dome. Pierce College defeated a very scrappy Riverside City College Team: 25-13, 25-21, 25-23.
The dynamic duo of Leanna Schott and Chelsea Lawrence had 10 kills and 11 kills respectively. In Game 1, the Brahmas had 13 kills to go along 6 aces and 3 stuff blocks. Riverside had only 4 kills and no aces. In Game 2, Pierce had 13 kills and 2 aces while committing only 8 errors. Freshman Defensive Specialist, Bea Hernandez helped sparked a 7 point run with tough serving. In Game 3, the Brahmas continue to put pressure on the Tigers behind the service line and at the net collecting 18 kills while committing 6 errors only. On the night, Pierce had a total of 8 stuff blocks and the conversion ratio was close to 50% (converting the number of digs into kills).
Freshman Outside Hitter, Tamia Files, came off the bench to give the team a boost replacing injured outside hitters: Kristen White and Shari Volpis, and had her best performance of the year with a team high 11 kills.
More Good News…..Sophomore Libero, Darrin Rice, was recently named to the 2015 All-State Team, 2015 Southern Region Team, and All-American AVCA 1st Team. Sophomore Middle Blocker, Chelsea Lawrence, was also named to the 2015 All-State Team and 2015 Southern Region Team.
The nine Sophomores on the roster, along with a very talented freshmen class, helped the Brahmas (27-1, 11-1 in WSC) clinch the 2015 Western State Conference title and gave the volleyball program its 13th conference championship in the last fifteen seasons.
