This past Friday, your #2Pierce Women’s Volleyball Team (16-2 Overall, 1-0 in WSC) used a 47-34 advantage in kills to defeat #3Santa Barbara City College in four games on Friday night in a top-3 matchup of women's volleyball teams in the state. The scores were 25-17, 18-25, 25-23, 25-18. This makes it the third time that the Brahmas have defeated the Vaqueros (Finals of the Kickoff Classic, Finals of the Brahma Invitational, and WSC Crossover Match) and improved to 16-2 with its ninth straight win.
After being down 10-18 in the third game (tied 1-1 a piece) and committing multiple and uncharacteristic errors throughout the game, the Brahmas made an almost-unheard-of-comeback in volleyball by outscoring the Vaqueros 15 to 6. The Brahmas committed 13 errors but found a way to win the game by scoring a couple of runs that started off with Chela Maldonado's point-scoring serving strategy.
On the match, the Brahmas not only outhit the Vaqueros but also won the serving and passing battle. Freshman Defensive Specialist, Chlea Maldonado, led the team with two aces and in digs (14 total). The win was a collective team effort behind great performances from Cassidy Rosso (12 kills), Hayley Alvarez (11 kills), Shanon Volpis (11 kills on 0.500 hitting efficiency and had three stuff blocks). Freshman outside hitter, Anika Lewis, continues her good play by coming off the bench and scoring 7 kills.
